Benefits

You learn from scholars who are active apologists.

The professors in the program are cutting-edge scholars committed to bringing light and truth to a dark age. Not only have they answered the non-Christian world through publishing the key books in the field, but through debates and lectures at secular campuses and other secular venues, they are taking serious and effective steps to reestablish the credibility of Christian truth claims.

You can study from anywhere.

M.A. in Christian Apologetics

We offer our outstanding M.A. program in Christian Apologetics in two formats: traditional on-campus learning or innovative modular (distance) learning.

-  On-campus classes are offered at Biola’s Southern California campus in the evening and on weekends to accommodate the needs of students with families, careers, and active lives. The majority of classes meet once a week for eight weeks.

- Our modular program has been established for over 10 years, and constitutes more than 75% of our students. Classes are offered in a combination of online courses and short campus visits. Students typically complete the degree by studying from home during the spring and fall semesters through special online discussion groups, and then by attending our on-campus summer residency.

Summer Residency

Summer residency fulfills a 20 unit requirement that is the highlight of our program. Students benefit from lectures and discussions face to face with our outstanding faculty, and even joy meals and game nights with them as well. Biola is set apart for its commitment to personal, quality education, and the Summer Residency requirement is the cornerstone of this commitment in our MACA program.

Traditionally students spend a total of four weeks in residency, either in 2-week segments between 2 summers, or separated into 1 week segments between 4 summers. A flexibility unique to the MACA program is the option to take local weekend seminars, each counting for 2 units, for a total of 10 units. Weekend seminars allow the on-campus residency requirement to be lessened to only 2 weeks.

M.A. in Science and Religion

Our M.A. in Science and Religion is the smaller of our two M.A. programs and offers slightly less flexibility. The MASR is almost exclusively offered through modular learning, although local students sometimes have the option of combining on-campus with modular learning. While the requirements for summer residency remain the same as MACA, the only flexibility is that students can split up the 4 required weeks in a 1,1,2 format over a total of 3 summers.

You are uniquely prepared for a variety of careers and ministries

People with degrees in Christian Apologetics are successfully using their education and talents in a wide range of careers and ministries. In addition to being more effective witnesses for Christ and leaders and teachers in the church, some have gone on to do advanced graduate degrees. Others are using their unique training to defend the faith through radio and television broadcasting, teaching, writing, and a variety of apologetics ministries. Apologetics preparation is especially good for those interested in bringing the Gospel to secular college campuses.
